# Are the ASEBA instruments valid for children with Down Syndrome?

The norms for ASEBA instruments are based on representative samples of individuals who do not have major physical or intellectual disabilities. However, you can use ASEBA instruments to assess individuals with Down Syndrome, if you wish to document their particular problems and strengths and if you wish to compare them with those of children who do not have major disabilities. This can be especially helpful for comparing individuals with Down Syndrome with children in mainstream settings in order to identify specific kinds of help the children with Down Syndrome may need to cope well in the mainstream settings. The Bibliography of Published Studies using the ASEBA (available online at [www.aseba.org](http://www.aseba.org)) includes about 20 published reports related to Down Syndrome and well over 100 reports related to intellectual disabilities.
