What if a respondent endorses two different items when his/her comments indicate that the endorsements of both items refer to the same behavior or characteristic?
Answer: Score only the item that most specifically describes the problem. For example, on the older adult OABCL form, if the respondent endorsed item 84. Strange behavior (describe) and describes the behavior as “won’t use the telephone,” this behavior should be scored only for item 105. Doesn’t like to use the telephone, instead of item 84, which should then be scored 0, unless the respondent reports other behavior that qualifies for item 84.
