Why is the ABCL said to have 118 problem items when the item numbers go to 123?
Answer: ABCL item 56 includes seven specific physical complaints designated as a through g. Combined with the remaining 111 problem items, this sums to 118 problem items. The item numbers are increased by the 11 socially desirable items, which are not counted toward the Total Problems score. The Total Problems score is computed as the sum of 1s and 2s for the 118 problem items. If a 2 is scored for all 118 ABCL problem items, the Total Problems score would be 236.
